i want the ratings to soar so they may at LEAST think of continuing the show, in some form!!

The ratings will never soar, I'm a fan, but I think the highest that would be possible is around 6. But, if they do cancel it, I'm sure that Buffy fans will write UPN and stuff.

That's the thing, should be Writing NOW not after they cancel.
I've already done so but one person doesn't do it. But atleast I can say I tried

Anyway, No decission has been made on Buffy, Every single rumor is just that a rumor.
They didn't even start talking about till in december. And we not going to know for sure until May sweeps
FOX makes lots of Money on Buffy so if they can get what they want they'll continue. UPN says they want it to and so far have heard no different. After them it's up to the cast and giving them what it takes to stay.
it's not something that they sit down and in 10min know. between filming and other stuff for Joss and the cast they have to have the time to do it. Hollywood shut down for christmas so nothing at all for 2 weeks
was talked about. the ealiest we'll hear anything is durign or after the Feb sweeps.
oh, AOL9045 didn't mean to quote you, sorry
Don't count the show out yet. Beside it has to go out on the even number. Personal Thing

Do ratings really matter? I mean, UPN isn't going to cancel Buffy...Buffy has a solid fan base, and it averages around the same every week, its never been huge on ratings. As long as theres quality.
And I know how you feel...I don't want the show to end either.

Ratings matter if it means that UPN isn't making enough money.

I don't think the UPN would cancel Buffy. They always say how they owe so much to the show and besides Enterprise, doesn't it have the highest ratings on the network? I don't think we have to worry about it being canceled. I hope not anyway.

Yes, but when they credit it to bringing new writers and directors that they never had before it pays in other ways.
UPN has sadi they loose direct money on Buffy, But it brings to their network something it hadn't ahd before critical aclaim. thoughts of emmy's
(if if buffy is never ever going to get one). like enterprise it's a cult show and so has very dedicated fans.

I don't care about UPN...as long as it stays afloat as long as they have Buffy, I'm happy. They have shows which ger ratings higher than Buffy, so all the pressure isn't on Buffy.

I wouldn't think they would cancel Buffy. Then again we are talking bout the network that is to cheap to have promo pictures for it... I dont't know.
And I'm with Oli on this. I hope that Buffy finishes this year.

I think Joss is tired of the show. I think Sarah is tired of the show as well. Basically, it doesn't look too good.

**Kinda Spoilery**
I think it has come the full circle... I mean, look at the big bad for example. How can they really top that?? It's a fitting final big bad and it just works on so many levels. Joss has obviously had this planned back in season 3 which is what I love most about this show. They really think about their story arcs long before it all comes together which makes it better because they put so much thought and effort into it. With Joss saying he wants it to be the last season, I don’t think he really has a clear picture in his head of what would happen in Season 8. If he did, he'd wanna tell that story and want the show to continue for an 8th season. But I could be wrong… It’s a statistical probability that I am but this is just what I think.
But I dunno... maybe It’s cos SMG might not sign up again that’s causing all this doubt and that Joss does have this brilliant idea about season 8. I’m just talkin crazy here (I only got 2 hours sleep last night) and I doubt any of that post made any sense whatsoever. Feel free to ignore

I know he probably could... I mean the fact that it's the first evil, what's bigger and eviler and more powerful than that in the Buffyverse?? I just think that it's the best way to end it.

Right, One don't have to destroy it you jsut have to stop it's plan which is allot easier then destroying the FE.
Joss has a way but at what cost? buffy dies (again) the scobbies die, faith dies but the world is safe.
Question, If there was no doubt sarah would sign as well as the whole cast. would you all still want the show to end? if so why?

All of you are right... now that i think about it, why would UPN cancel it... it is one of the hottest shows on TV.. and it makes big money for them... that means a lot to a network that plays nothing but horrible shows like Living Single, LOL. Anyway, if it is the last season then i think they should make a Dawn spin-off. I don't think her character is annoying as she used to be! OHH GOD i know im going to get critisized for that onE!

As much as I was longing for a Season 8, I agree that now it should end. I don't think Joss could top himself this year. Seaosn 7 has been brilliant, just like Season 2 and 3 were. I didn't realize how much Buffy had changed until CWDP which reminded me so much of Season 2 Surprise/Innocence (actually nothing can really surpass that as much as I love Becoming Part I & II.) The Bronze, the music, the humour, the pathos, the horror...everything about the ep was stellar Buffy. The entire season has been stellar, unlike the previous three seasons, which I liked but did not love.

Here's my thoughts on the show. Buffy should end this season, and this is why. The first three seasons showcased a phenomenal story from the writers and characters. Season 4 brought dismissed characters, season 5 introduced a annoying and error-mined child, and season 6........well, I could find more hope in a mental hospital than in buffy. Season 7, it shows promise, but the the "new gang"? Dawn and her little friends, they can't compare to Buffy, Xander, and Willow. BtVS is past the Highschool kid phase.
Joss destroyed Spike, making him into a little sissy. He brought Dawn, which is more annoying than group of 14 year olds. The whole Willow/Tara relationship, that's a bit unnessary for this show. This isn't mtv. The whole run of the show was based around the original trio and their undeniable friendship.
Quite honestly, It's just been hacked and slashed. Sarah is an excellent actress, but she can only take Buffy so far. I just think it's become too real, and that wasn't the intent in the beginning.

so what your saying is that if buffy had remained 16 forever, never grew up, her friends had never grown up. that the show would be good???
that's what it sounds like and that would not be a show worth watching. what we have is a show that has grown and faced life, dealt with and told a story of a girl growning up with her freinds. Buffy has had her ups and downs as many do.
I for one would have found S6 disappointing if buffy had come back and been like she was in S2 or 3. that woudl have shown nothing of facing death and life. But fortunately it didn't and gave us a season that really dealt with issues. was it all laughs, no. but they were there. it had everything buffy has been great at, but had to be willing to see.

I would only want a S8 if all the key players came back -- both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. I think I heard that Joss's contract is up, too. If he didn't come back I think it would be even more devastating than if Sarah left.
Before S7 started, I was really rooting for a S8. But if any key people were to leave, now that I've seen how big and powerful this season is, I'd prefer it to end here on this really high note, rather than come back and be a lesser version of itself.
However, I'd be open to a spin-off with some of the characters, if it were done well.

What i'm saying, is that Buffy, Willow, and Xander had a really, tight knit friendship going. Something that is basically non-existant in today's world. In the latest seasons, their all splitered. As if they each live thier own epic. They survived all the evil, because of each other. When you throw things in the mix that don't belong, it ruins that.
