As expected, the ad inside the S3 DVD set i got today indicates to watch for the S4 set in June 2003.

Alright! Is it possible we might see 3 this year? Or will Season 5 probably be in January 2004?

The first thing I was looking for in the DVD was the little slip telling me when I can say I can get the new DVD!

Arg!
They make us wait too long!
Chelle
Jan 7 2003, 09:28 PM
6 months is REALLY too long to wait. 4 month wait would have been nice instead.
Six... Months... Ugh.

At least soon we'll be caught up with the Europeans.

Well on the upside... they ARE releasing all the seasons... so I'm happy with that anyway.

I am having mixed feeling on this subject!
I am very happy that all season sare definatly coming out, and same goes with AtS
But 6 months is way to long a wait IMO, 3 or 4 months would be much more appropriate!!!!!
AGH I want them all now!

Well the way it's going now. If they release each season on DVD every 6 months... Then we have to wait until January of 2005 before we get Season 7. If the show ends this year, that's unbelievably ridiculous.

Yeah, it is. I had a whole post, with a lot of complaints on buffy.com, on how joss and fox are unfairly treating Americans, seeing as Buffy is our show. Season 6 on dvd should be hitting europe by march I believe. They need to turn out the seasons here in the States faster.
From what I hear, since Buffy went into syndication, that is why there is a delay on the seasons. It's all about the benjamins.
I've already seen on Ebay, a dvd with all the latest season 7 buffy eps already. Now isn't that funny.

I doubt Joss has much say in when the DVD sets are to be released.

That sucks. Maybe they`ll rush them through faster when the show finishes. But we only got one every 6 months too.

Well it WOULD make sense for them to start putting them out faster. Because honestly... people are less likely to buy the DVDs two years from now!

I don't mind waiting that long, since it's S4, and I ony like 3 or 4 episodes from that season. But they had better not take that long for S5...

Well that's my point... we have to wait a year until we even get season 5. A year is a LONG time. And by that time, if the show does end this year, then it'll be only the true fans who end up buying the DVDs. Personally, I think they just screwed themselves over.

I agree, it'll be kinda weird buying the DVDs so long after its released...but at least the show won't be forgotten about completely, there'd still be new Buffy stuff coming out.

That's another scary thing. What if Fox decides to STOP releasing the DVDs because the show ended so long ago? And they decide that the fans don't care as much anymore. That worries me quite a bit.

I didn't even know that was a possibility. If that happened, then I'm sure they'd get a lot of protest. That would be horrible if they decided last minute to do that...

Buffy fans are fanatical, I don't FOX would want to deal with them.

Yeah but FOX doesn't actually care. We're fanatical and they're just insane. Ie they're insane troll logic about shutting down important Buffy sites. They're just freaking insane. Period.
And THAT'S why I don't trust them.

OMFG......

That's one of the most scary things I've ever heard of....I'll feel like s*** the rest of the day now,thanks...

I agree Fox doesn't give a crap,no matter how much money we spend on Buffy stuff, but SURELY they're not THAT big of an greedy arrogant bunch, are they? No....wait.....don't tell me.....

It's a damn good thing I'm basically an Optimist...otherwise....

No way. They`ll release them on Regions 2 and 4 beforehand. There`s no way they`d then decide not to bother releasing them on R1. No way.

I'm not really that scared about the DVD's not being sold. As well as past seasons sell with new episodes still airing, makes me think that Fox will be very confident of the interest when the series is over.

Even if the show were to end this year, I think Fox would still continue releasing the DVDs in Region 1 for all the seasons.
Like Buffy_Addict said, the most time intensive part has already been done -- DVDs for S4 and S5 have already been compiled, S6 is in the works, and S7 probably won't be far behind.
All they would need to do is print up a new batch with Region 1 coding and send them out to the stores. The cost would be relatively minimal and, even if sales were reduced, the profit margin on each unit should still make it worthwhile for them to do it.

Don't any of you visit the official site for Buffy? The dvd's will be coming out for the states. The only reason there is such a time gap is because of sydication. Fox wants to pull in more people for the show, by showing older episodes. This generates more money for them, as well as opportunites for the actors on BtVS.
And btw, Joss does have say. He's just given up on Buffy and Angel since he has his new baby now. I forget the name of the show, but it's some sort of "star trek" type show.

Ummm that would be Firefly and that show just got cancelled.

Firefly is cancelled, Nika's right, so he should have more input on Buffy and he'll probably put more time into it. Just thought I'd mention that....
