Isn't a long time to shoot an 1/2h comedy?

It hasn't been confirmed that this show has even been ordered to series yet, so there is no confirmed start date. I don't even think there has ever been a fall release rumored.
I'd say your best bet to keep informed is to keep checking here wink.gif

I'm CRAZY excited for Sarah's return to TV.... especially in an HBO drama! One question (or news) that I may have stumbled upon -- have HBO changed the name of the series from "The Wonderful Maladys" to "The Wonderful Maladies"?

I had seen it credited as both in different articles and was thinking about registering a domain name for a fansite... and I searched for "THEWONDERFULMALADIES.COM" and found that it had been officially registered by a person at HBO. The .NET and .ORG versions of the domain have also been registered.

Check it out: http://www.whois.net/whois/thewonderfulmaladies.com

For what it's worth there is a rumor going round that HBO have passed on TWM

ETA I presume it's because of this

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091014/media_nm/us_gilmore

QUOTE
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – "Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino will be tackling more mother-daughter relationships in a project for HBO.

Sherman-Palladino will write and executive produce an untitled comedy-drama for the cable network. The show chronicles the complicated relationships among three adult sisters, all writers living in the same Upper East Side apartment building, and their mother, a domineering literary lioness who reserves her affections for their ne'er-do-well brother.

Spdub, when you say there's a rumor going around, are you talking about the fansites or tv related sites?
I'm surprised, because I haven't read anything about this sad.gif

Just fansites .

I presume because they saw that description and noticed the similarity in the same genre .

No word of any sort since May hasn't helped quell fears either .

And to tell the truth I can't say I'm overly surprised if it is true .

Thanks for the reply. If it's just that kind of rumor, I'm not worried then lol Nothing much than deductions and assumptions. Not saying it can't be true, just saying that this is not enough to make me change my idea that it could still go either way. I personally don't have any fears. I'm not sure no news since May is that meaningful.

If this is true, and it seems to be, it’s a real pity. I was looking forward to seeing this show, as I guess we all were. Oh well, back to waiting for ‘Possession’ and ‘Veronika Decides to Die’. It seems that it might be a while now before we get to see SMG again – hopefully not too long.

It was so great that she was going to be on TV again and on HBO of all stations...Darn it!

I hope Sarah finds something else she's passionate about.

Hey didn't Amy Sherman-Palladino love Buffy, couldn't Sarah work on her new show? Yeah I know grasping at straws... sad.gif

Maybe this is a blessing for Sarah. Now she can spend all kinds of time with her new baby girl. Nothing better than that. IMO, the girl has worked her entire life, she deserves a break. A nice long relaxing one! wub.gif

I do hate it that I won't get to see her on my screen, week after week, again but that's me being selfish.

Well, I guess the rumors are true: HBO has said no to "Wonderful Maladys" (cue those Price Is Right "losing horns"). That's the bad news.

The good news: The pilot's long been in the can; maybe they can try Showtime or possibly AMC (who's really kicking butt with "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad")!

Over at Fanhost, Apollo is asking for opinions on whether it would be worthwhile to mount a petition asking HBO to reconsider it's decision. What do you guys think?

Just running some thoughts here but if you feel I have missed anything please say so .

Sue Naegle in her interview in April seemed to indicate they had more than just the pilot script and that if it was needed they would If we need to edit, make changes, reshoot anything, we want to have time for all of us to tinker,”..."It’s not just for us, it’s for them [the creators]. We’re in it together, to make sure it’s working. It’s not at all because we need Terry Winter or David Simon to pass some test; it’s more that we want to be very careful about being smart with money and production and making sure we’re prepared.”

http://www.trueblood-online.com/general-in...-hbo/#more-4507

So presumably they thought the script or scripts were good and so shot the pilot.Sue Naegle mentioning TWM in that interview seems to support that or why mention it .

They then got the pilot and decided it was unsalvageable

It doesn't make their initial judgement of the script(s) look good unless they thought they were stinkers but still shot a pilot that they knew beforehand had a very small chance of being picked up

So I suppose it boils down to this

They basically thought the show was rubbish or they ran into a production issue (money, writing etc ) but wouldn't most of them have been dealt with when ordering the pilot since for example we knew since then Sarah would be a executive producer

There are a lot of pilots made, it’s a constant stream, but very few of them go any further and then a lot of the ones that do don’t actually make it through the first season. That’s just the way it is. A couple of years ago I was really looking forward to ‘Babylon Fields’, but it stalled at the pilot, which I have seen and thought showed real promise. ‘Point Pleasant’ is undoubtedly my favourite American television series since BtVS, but it was widely unloved and failed after half a season. The same thing happened with ‘The Women’s Murder Club’ and ‘The Unusuals’, both of which I thought showed promise. It’s an endless list, really.

It’s a real pity about ‘The Wonderful Maladys’, but it is not particularly surprising. These things seem to be a lottery. Personally, I don’t think a petition would make any difference – apart from anything else, it has become such a commonplace thing now whenever a show fails and with one or two isolated exceptions the impact of such efforts is minimal at best.

I understand what you you are saying

One point to consider is that at the moment under Sue Naegle HBO seem to have managed to separate the wheat from the chaff at the script stage and with the exception of Game of Thrones everything else approved to pilot on her watch has got at least a season or in most cases two .

And frankly some it on the basis of the first few episodes I was wondering about .

If the two deals they announced during the week and Game of Thrones go to series it will make me wonder what on earth was wrong with TWM even more

I wonder what this might mean now looking back but for someone who doesn't go to a lot of events Sarah was the Alliance For Children's Rights, Honors Sue Naegle at the Annual Dinner Gala held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on March 5th

I have not given any great thought to why ‘The Wonderful Maladys’ has stalled at the pilot stage. Presumably HBO didn’t like what they saw (whether it was good or bad or indifferent), or didn’t think they would be able market it and make it appeal to viewers and advertisers and to foreign buyers. Maybe there were problems with negotiations with one or more of various interested parties involved and they decided just to back away. I don’t know anything about how the business side of making television shows in America (or anywhere else) works. No producer or agent or production company or network or cable channel is going to have a 100% score rate.

I know very little about HBO, apart from having watched a few HBO shows that have come over here to Britain – the only one I can think of that I’ve ever really taken to is ‘Carnivàle’. I watched ‘Six Feet Under’ for a while, but the appeal of the likes of ‘Sex and the City’, ‘The Sopranos’, ‘Deadwood’ and ‘The Wire’ passed me by. I’m sure they’re all as a good as their reputation suggests, but I just didn’t find anything to make me want to watch them.

SMG’s attendance at the dinner gala in March doesn’t seem to me to hold any particular relevance in retrospect at this stage, to be honest.

Edited to add:

For what it’s worth, here’s something from E!Online that seems to suggest it is not an absolute 100% certainty that the show is dead, although the fact that HBO doesn’t actually deny it doesn’t exactly bode well.
