Buffy episode tournament, playing episodes against one another Options

Here is my proposal of a Buffy episode tournament that can be arranged if there is enough interest. In short, the idea is that episodes compete against one another, the winners and losers are decided by your votes, and the tournament table is calculated and announced after each round.

Now the same idea in more detail.

1. First we have to decide in which category episodes will compete. The best, the most favorite, the most funny, the most dramatic etc are possible candidates. My initial proposal is the most favorite (most likely to rewatch) category. It is very subjective, which makes the whole tournament more unpredictable, thus more fun.

2. Once the category is decided, each of us can nominate a number (say, 12-15) episodes for competition. Ideally, we should come up with 30-40 episodes that will participate in the tournament.

3. The competition will consist of a number of rounds, in which episodes will compete against one another in pairs. For each pair, the winner will be decided by your votes. For example, you can vote W(win), if the first episode is better for you, L(lose), if the second episode is better, or D(draw), if they equally good or you cannot decide. After a few days of voting, I will collect the votes, announce the winners, and update the tournament table. The winners will get 2 points each, while a draw will give each of episodes 1 point. I propose that a winner episode should get at least 2 winning votes more that a loser episode. Otherwise, a draw is declared.

4. Playing all (30-40) episodes against each other will make the whole tournament way too long. Instead, I propose that the tournament will have only 10 rounds. To make the results of such a shortened tournament fair, I suggest using so called Swiss system, which describes how episode pairings of each round are decided. Basically, it is two simple rules: one episode is paired with another, if 1) they have not met before, 2) they are as close as possible in the tournament table (ie they have approximately the same number of points). So, if an episode wins, it climbs higher in the tournament table and thus gets a "stronger" episode to compete in the next round. Similarly, losing means dropping in the table and getting a "weaker" episode and thus opportunity to rebound in the next round. After 10 rounds, the final results are announced.

Ah, lince, I’m awful at any of these games (naming episodes, choosing between them or characters). My favorite always seems to be the one I’m watching at the moment, that’s why I can never pick a for sure favorite scene or episode. I’ll try later though, when I have more time.

That's exactly what I meant by the favorite episodes. I consider, for example, "The Body" one of the best episodes, but definitely not the one I rewatch often. So I second the Premiere's proposal.
