IMO Diana Rigg, who played Mrs. Emma Peel for 4 seasons was just perfect in the role.Smart, beautiful, witty & quick with a gun as well as a clever line.

Some say that she was the first female crime fighter/action heroine. So Buffy has her to thank lol.I seen the movie The Avengers-1998-based on the Series.Ralph Fiennes was good as John Steed, but Uma Thurman was the wrong choice for Mrs Peel. The movie was pretty lame IMO,I was disappointed in it actually.I hope if they make another one, they cast Kate Beckinsale or Catherine Zeta-Jones next time. biggrin.gif

I think you would need someone with a bit more class than Zeta-Jones to play the character.

Perhaps Paltrow. (Just off the top of my head anyway).

Although I do think Uma Thurman rocks. (I haven't seen this film though).

Uma's great.Just wasn't the right actress for this part IMO.And I can't think of anyone more perfect for playing Emma Peel than CZJ.

Has anyone seen her with Sir Sean Connery in Entrapment? That was quite a challenge, not just the action scenes. Her character was very much like Mrs. Peel-even though it was one that went against the law instead of working for it lol.

Oh my gosh! What an obvious topic! laugh.gif
I can't believe Emma Peel hasn't come up before now!

The Avengers with Diana Rigg as Emma Peel is one of my
all-time favorite TV shows. I had the complete set on DVD
as soon as it was out. biggrin.gif

And I watch them even more than Buffy. HIGHlY recommended!
It was an innovative, interesting, highly creative and artistic
series that blows everything on today out of the water.

Nice work Jon. wink.gif Emma Peel is definitely a forerunner to Buffy.

I went to DVDpricesearch.com recently & found this- It's the cheapest price for the "The Complete Emma Peel Megaset" All 51 eps she appeared in on 16 discs. biggrin.gif

http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?ci...590qNAX8UBnn3bA At $104.23 + $1.40 Shipping,its still $15 less than DeepDiscountDVD.

I seen it at BBCAmerica website last week, they wanted the full $199.99 List Price.I don't think so... laugh.gif

It's very tempting to order that, even though my main Mastercard is pretty much maxed. *sigh* unsure.gif

That's a great deal though, I paid a lot more buying them in 2-DVD sets at $25 a pop...there's 8 of them. blink.gif I also got a few with Tara King (Linda Thorson) which brings the blood pressure right up. biggrin.gif Those are much-maligned coming after Emma Peel's stint, but there were some great episodes that year.

What was great about Emma Peel was that the character arose at a time when women's liberation was still in its infancy.
Sarah once made a comment about women being able to be strong without given up their femininity, and I think the Emma Peel character was great example of this, at a time when that idea was still very novel.

Intelligence. Style. Grace. And a wicked sense of humor tongue.gif

Mrs. Peel was an amazing character, especially for the time period. It was so much fun watching her and Steed work together, and I particularly enjoyed that she was every bit his equal.

Their theme song remains one of my all-time favorites, too. biggrin.gif
