QUOTE(mlkj13 @ Jul 19 2005, 01:46 PM) jojo...Have a feeling The Rock does have first billing. Back when they were trying to get another actor for his role (Benicio Del Toro) they said his character was the lead. But who knows it could be the 3 of them share top billing Sarah Michelle SHOULD get top billing but what MLKJ said, Benicio Del Toro was supposed to get his part but I think Sarah will get just as much screen time. Also, I am a little surprised that they didnt use his real name because in the past I know he has liked using his Dwayne name, lol. I think the billing should go, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Sean William Scott, and The Rock. Or Sean's name 1st, either way I dunno why The Rock gets the 1st name, lol. It's silly I know, but u think since the Rock hasnt really had ANY extrme hits like "The Grudge" he wouldnt get 1st. Also, I know Scorpian King did well, but not that well right? I dunno, maybee I am like really confused!?! LOL!

Hmm, I don't know. On all the websites a while back when castings for The Rock, Seann, and Sarah were confirmed, it was just about always in that order I believe. (Don't quote me though.) I don't think the billing should matter. I'm getting way excited for the movie! And I'm loving the posters!

Regardless of how much screentime each person ends up getting in the final film (since we can pretty much tell that nobody else is going to have so much more than him that it makes no sense for them not to have a higher billing), The Rock is going to have top billing i.e. his name is going to go first on the posters and will come first in the end credits (unless they do 'in order of appearance' or alphabetical order). I'm not a fan of his films in general, but he has had success. As for the order that the other two actors will be billed, I personally think that Sarah should definitely be next. But she'll probably end up not being. Personally, I think the third name on the poster stands out better than the second one which comes in the middle, so I'll get over it. Sarah was also the first of the three actors to sign on for the film, so in that respect it probably made it much easier for the agents of the others to negotiate that sort of stuff. Sarah's attitude seems to have been "count me in" regardless of all of the other details that end up being negotiated.

I have a very hard time beleiving any possible spoilers for this movie, it seems to me the script has had so many changes, that even if they are true might not make the end product so its no offense to you.

Where did you get the impression the script had a lot of changes ? Just wondering as I didn't get that impression, just problems with casting it, though I could have missied something.

Oops that was meant to be 'some changes' not 'so many' thats what you get when you listen to music and type at the same time...

thanks for the info, superglowy. Interesting stuff ETA: Kelly Releasing Tales Bookshttp://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.p...gory=0&id=31773QUOTE 12:00 AM, 26-JULY-05
Richard Kelly, writer and director of the upcoming SF film Southland Tales, will be releasing a six-issue graphic novel series, which he wrote as a prequel to the film, he announced in a press release. The 100-page graphic novels will be published by Kelly's Darko Entertainment along with Graphitti Designs and Kevin Smith's View Askew Productions. "I am thrilled to have Kevin Smith as both an actor in Southland Tales, as well as having his involvement in the prequel graphic novels for Southland Tales," Kelly said. "The novels will give the die-hard fans more of an understanding of the backstory leading up the film's theatrical release."
In addition to Smith, who plays a legless veteran of the Iraq war, the film stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (The Scorpion King), Seann William Scott (The Dukes of Hazzard) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Set in the futuristic landscape of 2008 Los Angeles, the film follows an action star (Johnson) stricken with amnesia whose life intertwines with an adult film star (Gellar) developing her own reality television project and a Hermosa Beach police officer (Scott) who holds the key to a vast conspiracy. The film is slated to begin principal photography on Aug. 15. This post has been edited by mlkj13: Jul 26 2005, 10:30 PM

Personally, I dont think this guys opinions are very fair. 1st off, just because "The Matrix" ended up sucking and got ruined doesnt mean the same for "Southlands". Plus, it's soooo early in production, let me refrase that: Production HASNT EVEN STARTED, lol, to make any kind of judgement yet. The "Matrix" got ruined on a whole different level: Poor writing for the 2nd and 3rd film and it was jus too much of the matrix. This guys seems like he is just kinda bitching about "Southlands" for no reason, lol. I dont really feel like he has a point or any opinions that make sence. "Southlands" is gonna rock! LOL! I'm like wicked pumped!

The guys over at richard-kelly.net said that pages from the script have been leaked. Number_5 said that if they get spread it could "really hurt the movie". Link

www.mtv.comQUOTE ... Writer/director Richard Kelly's wild imagination yielded a 6-foot-tall talking bunny named Frank in 2001's "Donnie Darko," but that was just the tip of the iceberg, according to the Rock, who stars in his upcoming apocalyptic flick, "Southland Tales." "If you think you can imagine what goes on in the mind of Richard Kelly, you can't. ... You think you [know], but you have no idea," the actor marveled. He described "Tales" as a "big, sweeping, epic thriller, dark comedy, sci-fi movie" musical that will feature him as "one of the world's biggest movie stars." Dealing with the frightening notion that "if the world came to an end, it's going to end first in L.A.," the former "Walking Tall" actor said his character "can actually foresee the ending of the world" and has to confront the ensuing chaos as the moment grows nearer. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Seann William Scott and Kevin Smith also star in the film, due next year. ...

movies.about.comQUOTE Kelly on "Southland Tales,"
On Being Ready to Get Back in Front of the Camera: “…I’m dying right now. I can’t [wait]. We’re four weeks out from ‘Southland Tales,’ thank God, because I’ve been a screenwriter for hire here for a few years, sort of, and it’s been great but at the same time it’s just like, you know, it’s not really… I’m a director first and a screen writer second.”
Four Weeks Out – The Status of the Cast of “Southland Tales: ” “Still [casting]. Casting is a big thing right now. There’s a lot of roles that are [dependent on] schedules and there’s a lot of exciting things happening with the cast, but nothing I can talk about officially.”
The Story of “Southland Tales: ” You could see this answering coming a mile away… Kelly said, “Alright. Story...” followed by lots of hmmms.
“Southland Tales” the Musical?: Kelly laughs. “It might be. Who knows?”
The Plot and Bizarre Rumors: “There’s always been a lot of inaccurate information put out there. It’s… I mean you’re so close to something; you’re so deep you lose objectivity sometimes. I’ve lost all objectivity so if I even try to describe the plot right now, I wouldn’t do it justice. And I would probably say something wrong, so it’s probably best if I just don’t say anything.”
But It’s Set in the Future… “It’s set in the year 2008, over the Fourth of July weekend.”
Sarah Michelle Gellar is Definitely in “Southland Tales: ” “Yes, the confirmed cast is The Rock, Seann William Scott, and Sarah Michelle Gellar. And I can confirm that Kevin Smith is in the film because we’re actually here [at the San Diego Comic Con] to - we’re gonna be doing this thing here in about a couple hours. He’s gonna be playing an Iraqi war veteran named Simon Theory, so that I can throw out there.”
Richard Kelly’s Response to Leaving This Reporter Clueless as to What “Southland Tales” is About: After interviewing Richard Kelly numerous times, I’m no closer now to figuring out what “Southland Tales” is really all about than I was the first time I heard the film mentioned. When I told Kelly I have no idea what the film’s about, Kelly responded, “Nor do I. I’m just kidding.”
Just the Tiniest Insight Into “Southland Tales: ” “Basically ‘Southland Tales’ is, more than anything, it’s… There’s a TS Elliot poem called ‘The Hollow Men’ where at the end of the poem the last three lines are: This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends This is the way the world ends Not with a bang but with a whimper
And in a movie starring The Rock, you can’t end the world with a whimper. It needs to end with a bang. So that’s what the movie’s about.”
The Music: “The music; the piece of music on the web site is called ‘Rose Petals.’ It’s an original composition by Moby. It will be in the film.”
Writing and Directing: “When you’re the writer, it’s almost – you become the screenplay. [It] becomes like part of your DNA and you get frustrated with it because you’ve gotta keep re-writing it because locations change, and the budget, and you have to adapt the screenplay to fit the circumstances and the parameters of the money. And as you cast it, you keep re-writing it and sculpting it. I went through the same thing with Tony [Scott], adjusting things and getting it right for Delroy Lindo. Getting it right for, you know, ‘Oh it’s gonna be Jackie Bissett. Okay let’s do like…’ Just massaging it. So you’re constantly re-writing the script and the script has changed significantly many times.
Sean [McKittrick] and I just spent two years re-writing it and we’re gonna be re-writing it constantly over the next four weeks. I think you get kind of, as a director, you get annoyed with the script because it’s all in your head and it’s like, ‘F**k the script.’
When you’re directing your own screenplay sometimes there’s just a shorthand and you forget that you need to explain it to everyone, otherwise, they’re like, ‘What?’ I’m not making any sense. Did I answer your question?”
Richard Kelly on Themes That Come Up Repeatedly in His Work: “I don’t know. God, I don’t know. I hope I just evolve more into writing comedy. Seriously. I mean it’s like ‘Darko’ was great, but it’s been like frustrating because I’m more into… I wish I could have made another film by now, but just getting the second one right has been a big ordeal. It’s been very difficult to get ‘Southland Tales’ off the ground.
I guess more than anything I just want to continue making movies. Making movies is such a pain in the ass, or doing them the way we try to do them is. The studio system isn’t set up to support the kind of stuff that, you know, Sean and I and all of my people, all my team, [are interested in]. It’s stuff that really doesn’t fit the parameters of what the studios are looking to do. So it just takes a long time to push this through the system, you know? I’m thinking I’ll just retire after this. If this one doesn’t make money, I’ll just have to go sellout and do something seriously, a lot more commercial because this has been a son-of-a-bitch to get off the ground.”
