Hmmm...boring part...

i wasn't going to go downtown to see if i could catch a glimpse of sarah. i wasn't going to go inside the event either but at the last minute i asked my friend's brother if he was busy at like 5 pm, if he wouldn't mind going past the foundation to check it out and stuff...since he knew the area around houston better than i did and was probably the best person to ask. so um...we got there at 7 pm and asked if the event started but people who were outside said it didn't...so we were milling around for a while and i was trying to decide if i'd go inside or not (i didn't want to go in by myself). so my friend convinced me (took a whole lot of convincing btw...about 30 minutes worth and two of my friends on my mobile) to go in and said that he'd go in also. around 7:20 my friend said that they'd close the doors in 10 minutes..so we went to an atm...then there was about 10 more minutes of "yes i'll go inside, no i don't mind paying ____ amount 'cause it's for a good cause" blah blah blah. so we asked someone if you had to have an invite or if you could just pay at the door (the website said it...but we wanted to make sure). so we went in...etc. etc. etc. went around looking at stuff for silent auctions and they had free alcohol...lots of free alcohol...we didn't drink any...that was really really stupid but that's not the point...i kept wondering if she would be there or not because i'm a worry wart.

skip to around an hour later...where i was worrying that everyone here would be disappointed if she wasn't there...after about 20 minutes of "what if she's not here" "i don't want to disappoint anyone if she's not here which is why i didn't even mention i would be down here"...to my friend (bless him)...we went to sit down and as soon as we did, i heard someone behind us say "it's sarah michelle gellar" and i thought i was hearing things so i stood up...then heard someone else go "?" and the person repeat the name...and i looked over to where the press was and cameras were going off at high speed. so then i turned to my friend and went "i think she's here...i'm too short." so we went closer to where the press was...and i couldn't see a thing but i kept hearing "sarah!" "sarah over here!" damn shortness to hell...my friend could see her, i couldn't. so then someone moved and i saw her...and almost died. and then i froze up...and went to go stand in a corner, so my friend asked me if i had a camera, which i did (i almost forgot) and so i put the battery in and handed it to him. and he went over to where the press was and tried to get pics but people kept moving in front of it...the press was so happy...i think one guy was actually singing. sarah's really nice to the press...she kept walking back and forth so they could take tons of pics and they got some with her and eva la rue etc. and then she stepped off to the side to do interviews for extra and channel 11 and other stations i guess. my friend walked over to that corner...cause i was still in the other corner, frozen. he took pictures, so yes, i have pictures. then he told me to go around...and i did...but i wouldn't move, i kind of pressed myself as close to the wall as possible. and then eva la rue was standing next to me...and i didn't know what to say so my friend spoke to her and she came to take a pic with me, so i have a pic with eva...she's very very sweet. lol i said sorry, i don't know why...for taking up her time i guess lol...and she said it was okay and i totally forgot to introduce myself...so a while later i tapped her on the shoulder and introduced myself, because i'm an idiot...and my friend said something to her about me being really nervous or something. she didn't think i knew who she was and i didn't get to tell her that i did because i was just a mess, forgetting everything. anyway, sarah left the press place and went off to the side i guess to sign up for the silent auction. she chatted to some people and my friend went over there...so i followed him, i figured she was leaving then he reminded me that she hadn't spoken...witness me going "ohhhhhh...riiiiiight". so we were really close to her then but i still wouldn't go up to her so finally she and her group went upstairs to sit down, rest, whatever. by that time my friend and i had moved to the stage because it was less crowded and i appear to have social anxiety disorder. no really, i'm serious. laugh.gif

i'll be paraphrasing for the most part...

um...so we were standing around...and all of a sudden...sarah was right next to us and this big security dude was right behind her...so she passed by us and then stood around for a bit right next to us...she passed by us and somehow still ended up next to us blink.gif she was speaking with someone else who was presenting...really funny comedian whose name i can not remember because i'm still in shcok, and some other folks. um some guy was trying to get through to take a picture or something and the guard told him that he'd have to move back (but he didn't tell us that because we were being nice and respectful and well, i was frozen to my spot anyway biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif) then she went up on stage to stand around and gave an amazing speech. a lot of people at the benefit were talking...not the ones paying attention to her speech and actually turned toward the stage...just the ones who were being really rude. laugh.gif but anyway, before she gave her speech...when she was being introduced, the person who was introducing her said where they had probably seen sarah (buffy and scooby doo) and said something along the lines of "she's battled demons etc. on btvs in the past and monsters in scooby doo" and the entire time...sarah's standing there wrestling with the microphone she was supposed to be speaking through because it wasn't reaching her height..and so when the woman introing her said that line, she went "but she does not know how to use a microphone". it was so cute.. then someone pointed out that it was literally taped (a whole damn lot of taped) to the floor.. and she was like "oh it's attached" so then she figured out that she had to move the mic and not the entire mic stand to use the mic. laugh.gif but anyway...the woman said her name and then she was like "me, standing there made that kind of anticlimactic didn't it?"...she said something else that was really funny/cute but i can't remember what it was right now. she then went into her speech. and she said that she did battle demons on tv etc. but that it's nothing compared to what the people who "are here tonight" were supporting and what some of the people "here, tonight" have been through. and she asked young survivors of breast cancer to raise their hands and asked for a round of applause (you know, from the people who were actually paying attention!)...and then she finished up and introduced the really funny comedian whose name i can't remember right now. and she was like "you'll enjoy this, she's way funnier than me". and she was...but sarah was adorable lol. so the funny-comedian, kicked off the auction and made some really hilarious comments which caused the audience and sarah to laugh. and during the auction sarah kept making comments...and at one point the "funny comedian" commented on one of the get-away pachages being auctioned and was like "oh i've been there" and sarah was like "i stayed there too! it's amazing" and then the really "funny comedian" was like "oh, i didn't stay there...i just was there" laugh.gif which made sarah laugh, again. at another point, sarah interrupted "funny comedian" and asked the audience if they "could quiet down. i know that some of you aren't hearing the great items we're auctioning because it's so noisy" etc...and that if they did, she and her auctioning partner would be off-stage quicker. and then "funny comedian" was like "if you shut up...we'll be off". at another point, some guy tried to buy...a date or something lmao...it was hilarious, sarah was like "i'm sorry, i'm married" and semi-flashed her rings (may i just add, WOW). my friend was cracking up. also at another point...um...tickets for fashion week 2004 were being auctioned and sarah said that she had been to fashion week and "for all the men who think that this is only something for the women...i went and the models wear very skimpy thongs and are practically wearing nothing on stage...so the guys can go with a date and they can get to see models on stage". anyway, so then it was time for sarah to auction off the gorgeous pearl mikimoto necklace she was wearing (she kept doing all these poses, it was too funny. sorry though, no pics of that, my friend had my camera. sad.gif )...which was originally 11,000 dollars ( blink.gif ). and it had a cherry blossom and she explained what cherry blossoms meant (isn't she such a cute conscientious nerd?). someone bid 8,000 i think...and then someone else bid 9,000 and i can't remember what happened but it went for like...9,500 or something. lol sarah told the man who won it that she thought he deserved it and that he could come up and remove it from her neck. and one of the security people for the event i guess...motioned to her "no". laugh.gif and she was like "no? oh...oh.. you can pay for it and THEN you can come remove it from my neck." she made some comment about the security people motioning at her like mad that no he couldn't come take it off her neck...but i don't remember when she said it, i just remember that she said it. and at another point...bear with me, lots of points...some guy came up on stage and whispered something to sarah and she turned to "funny comedian" and said that they had one more thing to auction. so then they said what was being auctioned...(a very guy orienated package...something about a blazer and i can't remember what else) and then sarah was like "we'll give you that if you win and the score to the yankees game!"... my friend was tempted,...lol okay not really...no. they started the bidding at like 800...and no one was bidding, so they brought the bid down...and still, no one was bidding. so then sarah raised her hand and said "700" and funny-comedian turned to her and was like "where?" (i think) and sarah was all "i'm bidding 700" and funny-comedian was all "awww, that's so nice...you're nice, i have two kids an no money" and she asked for a round of applause for sarah. i think people in the audience were probably like " ohmy.gif " (some guy behind me was saying how great she was and saying how tiny she was) laugh.gif so basically sarah started driving the price up and rather quickly, so people would bid...i think she might have been a little disappointed that so many people were there and weren't really into the auction...but hey...anyway she drove the price up (and no i'm not telling you what the final price was tongue.gif) and of course she won...and then she was like "i guess it's mine then" and "and we have the score to the yankee game". etc. etc. and they stayed up on stage for a bit, i believe they were waiting until a human cocoon was made for sarah to walk in the middle of it. laugh.gif she passed us...and was really close and my friend was going to speak to her, but then some dude jumped in front of him. i feel sorry for that person because they didn't get a great shot with her. and she moved out..and so my friend and i followed behind the huge security guard because it was the best way to get out of the crowd at the front. when you're small, follow the hugest guy...it really works. so then sarah headed upstairs.

...more later. i'm taking a break, my hands hurt. and yes, there's more. laugh.gif

i think i'm going to need to start wearing a glove on my right hand because i don't want to do anything with it. eventually, i'm going to have to wash it...

so...sarah went upstairs. a little while later i figured she had left...and so i told my friend that we should get his stuff from coatcheck...so then we went to stand outside, because being around so many people without sarah on stage to distract me was making me nervous. lol, so we were standing outside for a bit and then we went back inside because there was a limo outside, waiting...i thought that it could be sarah's but i wasn't certain. anyway, i thought maybe she hadn't left yet...i don't know why, i just did and i was seconds away from giving up with the waiting because i had like four chances to meet her and i froze so i was there going "i'm so so stupid...omg...i'm an idiot" laugh.gif plus whatever i had rehearsed in my head to say was getting all jumbled after a while. sooo..while we were inside..i looked up and spotted mr. huge security guard at the door and i turned to tell my friend that we should wait closer to the exit because i was thinking that sarah was probably still at the event. lol so i looked up and didn't see him. i lost him in the crowd. not good. laugh.gif so then i found him, luckily he wasn't far...and said that we should go outside. so we did...and that's when i spotted sarah's publicist (who we noticed previously...by the press place), or i thought i did. i thought it was but then i thought i was seeing things...so i told my friend "or maybe not" because she was hailing a cab...then i noticed, no she wasn't hailing a cab, she was motioning where the cab should stop. then she kind of turned around and yup, it was her. so then she turned back to speak to the driver...and we went where the coat check section was because there was another side where gift packages were being given out and the entrance to upstairs was on that side. and while we were waiting there...sarah's publicist came and stood right in front of us... i must have been wearing something extremely LUCKY...if only i could figure out what it was. it was like...she was begging us to come talk to her so i could meet sarah or at least i keep telling myself that. laugh.gif anyway...someone spoke to her, i think one of sarah's friends...it was probably one of her friends from AMC or something because he was gorgeous and i totally didn't recognize him...but he was with sarah and he ran upstairs to call everyone down or something. i again tried to blend into the wall, or rather, the door this time...as my friend (bless him) called sarah's publicist to ask her if i could take a picture i guess. i don't know what he said because i was hiding...all i know is that she said "sure, if we can grab her" and something else that i can't remember right now. so...big moment...people start coming downstairs, and i see eva, and then i see sarah. and then i no longer try to blend into the door, i try to become the door. it was great. i am a fool. so sarah got closer and her publicist called to her and she looked in my direction, and i almost died. actually, i think i had an out of body experience, i died really fast. quick second. and i don't know when sarah said "sure" or decided to come over and say hi and stand next to me but i know she did. i think something along the lines of "that was an amazing speech" (amazing..great, lovely, watch the repitition..i couldn't have said inspirational, or heartfelt, no, because my brain...mush. i'm not too bright.) "i'm one of your biggest fans" (that's the only line anyone ever remembers isn't it...my speech to her wasn't even supposed to start like that!!!) anyway..."i'm one of your biggest fans and i just want to say i'm so proud that you're supporting such a great cause" (*sigh* i had way more to say but it all wouldn't come out! i wanted to cry because i couldn't remember what i wanted to say to her.) and she awed...i don't even think i was looking at her while saying this but she awed and smiled at me a lot and said "thank you so much". and she turned, and then i turned..or maybe she turned me, if she physically turned me, i wouldn't have noticed..toward my friend, who was holding my camera. she asked him if he wanted to get into the picture too, i think she was going to ask someone to take the picture for us but he didn't hear her. so we took a picture..and i remembered the rest of what i wanted to say, which came out of my mouth as something totally different...something about her fans being so happy and so proud that she was at the event that night and that i wanted to say thank you...*sigh* and she awed again laugh.gif and said that that was sweet and thanked me...and then turned to ask my friend if he wanted to take a picture too...he shook his head no and said it was okay...and then that was when i remembered that i didn't introduce myself. i'm not usually that stupid. i swear i'm not. so i turned to sarah and said that i completely forgot to introduce myself and she asked me my name and i said "jonelle" and we shook hands (that sounds so incredibly weird and formal but i wasn't about to ask for a hug...because i'm stupid) and i think she said it was nice meeting me and thanked me for coming (?) and smiled and turned to leave...

which is when i died. sarah's mom was at the event too! my friend said "sorry" to someone because he was kind of in the way...and the person said "it's okay" and i looked up and it was sarah's mom! laugh.gif i should have thanked her for giving birth to sarah but that might have been a little weird. instead i turned toward my friend and went "omg that's sarah's mom!" i hope she didn't hear me. i didn't get any pics of sarah walking down the stairs or anything...because i probably would have dropped the camera (i was shaking sooo badly laugh.gif ). but we were right behind the entire group that was leaving with sarah...some people got into a cab and sarah and eva and i don't have a clue who else got into a black car...we passed right by as they were getting in 'cause we were on a one way street...meaning only one way to get out and go catch the train or a cab or whatever. laugh.gif but we walked ahead...and we were at the corner when sarah's car pulled up. it was so funny.. i would have made a "is she following me?" joke but by that time i was on the phone with josh telling him "their car just stopped right next to us, i'll be dying now". i think my friend waved at them. laugh.gif

i have pictures. lots of pictures. my friend took the camera away from me because the film was up to 20 exposures and after my picture with sarah 21, he should have taken like 4...i'll try to take them to a one-hour photo place.

wheeee...

p.s. the benefit was really really well-put together and nice. they had a kick-ass dj.
p.p.s. if i had known ahead of time that i was going to go inside the event...i would have written a letter to hand to her..sorry guys.. sad.gif

i think i'll sleep now.

I forgot to mention...if you ever get the chance to go to an event like this make certain sarah's not the ONLY reason why you're there! and pay attention to all the speakers lol, don't be rude.

Thanks so much for the report LilBufBuf!! biggrin.gif

Just a question, if many people weren't there for the auction, what were they there for? the "free" alcohol?

no problem!

laugh.gif well there were silent auctions too...so maybe a lot of people bid on the silent auctions because perhaps they didn't want to embarass themselves in the other auction...or maybe a lot of them bid on those auctions so they didn't bother with the other one. also, i forgot to mention...i believe this was on the website also...the ticket prices only started at 75/85 dollars but more expensive tickets were available (up to 250) and you could also make a donation (obviously more than 250) instead of buying a ticket so some people might have done that too.

p.s. sarah's hand is really soft laugh.gif

p.p.s funny comedian = judy gold. she was awesome..and so hilarious.

and...underaged drinking is bad. very bad. i didn't want any alcohol. i was kidding...

i can't make sarah is short comments anymore...because i'm just as short and we both had on heels. laugh.gif she's so incredibly gorgeous and lovely. she has amazing hair too! laugh.gif

That's great Jonelle! Finally you did it girl! I'm very happy for you. smile.gif Can't wait to see the pictures and especially the one of you and her.

I'm so glad that someone else with a close encounter with Sarah and/or her Mom has brought a camera finally and gotten a picture to share with us. I kept thinking as I read all of these different meetings with Sarah that people have--"can't someone start carrying a camera?!?!? Sarah is very sweet and would be glad to take pictures with these people" I think it's that people have been too scared to ask or haven't been prepared and that's why there haven't been many photos with fans over the years. I also think that that perpetuates the idea that Sarah isn't approachable or that she wouldn't pose with her fans. So thank you Jonelle for helping to disprove that! smile.gif

And yes it's sad, but you have to wash your hand. sad.gif I know, I feel your pain.

And I want to thank you so much for going to the trouble to type everything up, I got exited and nervous just reading it laugh.gif . I really appreciated it biggrin.gif
EEEEEK I'm so happy for you, Sarah's such a sweetheart biggrin.gif

no problem typing it up! thanks for reading it laugh.gif

i am so lucky...so very very very very lucky. 4th time seeing sarah..once semi-meeting her..and once actually meeting her. see the first time you cry and the rest of the times you don't know what's going on until you wake up and go "holy ---- i met sarah last night" laugh.gif

Janna biggrin.gif i just hope the pictures actually come out! especially the one with her. i made sure when i was leaving my apartment to my friends house that i grabbed my camera...i totally almost forgot it. she's so approachable only you know when your feet won't move...not so much. laugh.gif i don't have to wash my hand! okay yes i do...but not yet...okay wait...shower...that's right. oh... mellow.gif

should be sleeping but my mom woke me up 'cause she's going on a trip...and now i can never go back to sleep.

eva la rue didn't think i knew who she was...and i didn't even say i knew who she was i just kind of went *squeak* laugh.gif and oh! sarah's dress was really nice... the entire back of it was missing though laugh.gif she's always totally covered up and then she turns around and there's no back to her dress/shirt. laugh.gif
